The first thing that most beginners learn in Chinese\u00a0is the four tones<\/a> \u2013 how the meaning of a sound changes depending on whether you say it in a flat pitch, a rising pitch, a falling then rising pitch or a falling pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
